Which Wolf Games Let You Play With Friends Online?

The Wolf is a multiplayer animal RPG for iOS and Android where almost everything happens online with other players. For anyone comparing multiplayer wolf games on phones, the practical question is how you get your friends into the same hunt. In The Wolf you add them from a scoreboard or by Player ID, join their session from the friends list and wait in a queue when their room is full. From there you can hunt together in co-op rooms, lock yourselves into a private room or queue for a Domination match as a party of up to four.

Two wolves clash on a cliff edge, one crackling with blue energy, the other with fire.

On PC and Mac, WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition takes a host-based approach: the host sets a game to public, friends only or a chosen pack, for two to eight players in total. WildCraft on mobile shows which friends are online and lets you jump into their game.

What makes a wolf game truly multiplayer?

Co-op hunting in The Wolf happens in shared rooms, so the wolves chasing the same moose or champion as you are other players. In an online wolf RPG built this way, the player who helped you finish a champion is someone you can add, invite and join again the next evening.

Adding friends

Tap a player's name on the scoreboard during a hunt to open their profile, then send a friend request from there.

Tip

The overhead "Add friend" button is disabled while you're in combat.

For someone you know outside the game, the Player ID is the better route. It combines your Friend ID with a six-character Private ID made of two letters, two numbers and two letters.

You'll find it in your profile behind the Show Player ID button, after a confirmation popup. Copy ID puts it on your clipboard. The same ID sits in the lower-left corner of the main menu.

A friend can add you with the full Player ID or with the Friend ID number alone. The game can also generate a friend invite link.

Keeping track of your list

The friends list shows:

  • who's online,
  • when others were last active,
  • which pack each friend belongs to.

Favourites, marked with a star, stay at the top of the list. Every friend also gets a notes field that starts out holding the nickname they had on the day you added them, together with that date. That way you'll still recognise someone after a name change.

Friends who get annoying can be muted. There's a report button on the list too.

Why playing together pays

When several players attack the same animal, each of them gets a sharing bonus of 5% extra XP, coins and gems per player attacking, up to 20%. The bonus doesn't apply in the first room difficulty of a map and only kicks in once you've left the starter rooms. A loading screen tip sums up the design: wolves are always stronger together.

Pack coordination features that matter in 2026

Packs open at level 12 and work as the game's clans. In wolf pack games like WolfQuest, co-op players raise pups and defend a den together, whereas a pack in The Wolf is a group of players with four ranks:

  • The Alpha leads.
  • Betas hold the same rights.
  • Elders can invite players and kick regular members.
  • Ordinary Members have no extra rights.

A Broadcast message reaches every member at once. From your pack's member list you can open the profile of anyone online and join their game directly.

Weekends bring item requests, when members can ask packmates for epic items and materials. Donating earns Donation Chests. Quests feed points into the Pack Weekly Bounty, a pack-wide score with tiered rewards. Once a bounty period closes, the pack feed lists the results along with the top three contributors.

Getting into the same room

Your friends list shows who's online and lets you join a friend's session from there. Game invites work for friends and packmates alike. A friend who's offline still gets a push notification when you invite them. When you join a room at random, the game looks for rooms with your friends and pack members first.

Full rooms are where the Friends Queue comes in. Try to join a friend whose room is full and the popup offers a "Join queue" button, then shows your place in line. The moment a slot opens, it's held for the first player in the queue instead of going to a random player.

You get a popup asking whether you want to join, with 15 seconds to answer or 60 if you're on a loading screen. How the queue handles your spot:

  • Saying no or letting it time out passes the slot to the next person.
  • You keep your spot when you switch between gameplay and the customization screen.
  • Changing region drops you from the queue.
  • By default the queue is off in PvP and Custom rooms.

Players at level 60 and up are placed in featured rooms automatically, though they can still reach easier rooms through friends or their pack. Update 4.0 reserved more slots for friends and packmates on easy maps for those players.

Co-op wolf hunting in the room

The player with the highest score becomes the team Alpha and can place a portal that summons teammates. Say a champion turns up at the far end of the map. Someone drops a "Champion is here" marker through Quick Chat that appears on everyone's minimap and radar, while the Alpha puts a portal down nearby. The rest of the group teleports to it instead of running across the map.

Skills from the Totems tree help the group once the fight starts. The Life Regeneration Totem heals friendly players standing near it, while the Shield Totem cuts the damage they take.

Cross-platform play: iOS and Android together

The Wolf is available on iOS and Android, but cross-play between the two isn't confirmed. If your group mixes iPhones and Android phones, ask Support before you plan a session around it. You'll find Support in the Social tab of the menu.

Cross-play and cross-save come up again and again as questions about any cross-platform wolf simulator on phones. The game's own tip for keeping your progress is to register your e-mail, the main login method. Since update 4.6.0 you can also link the same account to Facebook, to Apple on iOS or to Google on Android. Whether an account moves from an iPhone to an Android phone is worth asking Support in the same message.

Tip

Whatever phones your friends use, check everyone's app version before you start inviting.

Invites don't go through between incompatible versions. In the Domination lobby the invite button simply reads "Incompatible app version".

Real-time vs turn-based: which multiplayer mode fits your pack?

Every mode in The Wolf runs in real time. Everyone in a room hunts at the same moment, so your friends need to be online when you are. In a turn-based game players act one after another, which lets friends take their moves at different times of day.

Co-op rooms

Co-op rooms suit a group that drops in and out. Nobody has to wait for the others to be ready, since a friend can join mid-hunt. Room difficulty follows level brackets. On Green Hills there are four, from levels 1 to 9 up to 60 to 99, with higher rooms keeping the animals from lower ones.

Private rooms

Private rooms live in the Custom mode, which opens together with PvP at level 6. You create a room with a name and a password, or leave the password empty, then pick one of the maps you have access to. Friends can join with the name and password or through your invite, which skips the password. On their friends list your room shows up as "PRIV" without a Join button.

Inside, players split into Blue and Red teams. Anyone can switch sides whenever the other team has a free slot. Animals still roam the map, but they give no rewards and don't count toward quests. During a Domination event, Custom rooms can be limited to players above level 50.

Region matters here. A private room exists only in the network region where it was made. A friend who types the right name and password from another region gets the message "The game does not exist. Make sure you're in the correct network region." Agree on one region before anyone creates the room.

Domination party

Press "Play with friends" in the Domination popup to create a party. The lobby only really exists once you send an invite or start matchmaking. You can invite from the lobby, the friends panel or a player's profile.

Your friends accept from the notification at the top of the screen, the friends panel or your profile. A friend who's offline gets a push notification instead: "You have been invited to join a Domination match!" When they next reach the customization screen, the invite pops up for them.

A party holds up to four players. Only the owner can start matchmaking or kick someone, although a kicked player can be invited again. If the owner leaves, another member takes over.

You can't sit in a co-op room and a party at the same time. Invites also fail when:

  • the lobby is full,
  • the lobby is already matchmaking,
  • your friend's level is too low.

Trophy counts in one party can't be too far apart. If they are, the start button turns grey with an exclamation mark. Two to four premade players also add bonus trophies to the lobby's value in matchmaking. Since update 4.3.0, friends from different regions can play Domination together.

Once the match starts, it's 8 minutes of fighting over control zones between two teams of four. Your party plays as one team. Queue solo and you're matched with three strangers instead.

Social features beyond basic multiplayer

Three chats run side by side in The Wolf:

  • the room chat for everyone in your session,
  • your pack chat,
  • your friends chat.

Room chat arrived in update 3.4 along with Quick Chat and emotes. Since 4.3.0 the room chat settings have had an "Enemy messages" toggle for hiding what the other team writes.

Other ways to talk to players:

  • Emotes work in all three chats.
  • Quick Chat commands let you talk with allies regardless of their language.
  • Domination has had its own set of commands since 4.3.0.
  • Moves let you dance and interact with other players once you've equipped them in the Collection.

Tapping a name on the scoreboard opens that player's profile, including their pack role. In your own profile, the Customize button lets you pin three of the badges you've collected in the Hunting Book.

Elders recruit through the pack invite button in a player's profile. If you and a friend want the same pack, one of you can join first and ask an Elder to send the other an invite.

In Settings, under Privacy & Support, you can turn social features like invites and messages off. Text messages in the friends, pack and gameplay chats stop, but emotes and Quick Chat keep working. You can still signal "Champion is here" to the room. Younger players get the same limits automatically through the underage filter.

Tip

Muting a player also blocks their Domination invites, push notifications included.

Before your next session, copy your Player ID from your profile and send it to the friends you want to hunt with, so they can add you before you all log in.
