Base Building in Mobile Survival RPGs: What Makes a Fortress Worth Defending?
A base in a base building survival game earns its keep through what it does between runs. In Tomorrow: MMO Nuclear Quest, a post-apocalyptic survival RPG for mobile, the base holds your stash, runs the workstations that turn loot into gear and gives you Comfort Points that slow hunger and thirst. Upgrades there also raise your Survival Rank.

Core building mechanics: materials, placement and upgrades
Tomorrow base building works in tiers. Structures such as walls, floors, doors, windows and stairs go through a chain of materials:
- twig
- wood
- stone
- metal
- plated metal
Plated metal arrived with the Supermarket update in December 2025. For the lower tiers you rely on what you gather first, with a hatchet for wood and a pickaxe for stone and ore.
Workstations get upgraded too. The update notes mention stations like Toolworks level 2 and Pyrotechnics Station level 2. Station upgrades raise your Survival Rank, the score that tracks your progress.
Tip
Workstation upgrades count toward Survival Rank right away. A patch in April 2026 fixed a bug that delayed it.
Store reviews of Tomorrow list what builders would like next. Diagonal pieces, more window and stair types, glass and furniture come up there.
Defensive structures vs resource production
Survival games often split your materials between protection and production. In many of them, walls and gates keep raiders out while stations and storage help you make more.
In Tomorrow, the stations named in the game's update history are all on the production side:
- Armor Factory, the source of reinforced junk armor past level 30
- a knitting table that needs 10 wrenches
- Toolworks at level 2
- Material Lab
- an archery station at level 2
- Pyrotechnics Station and Energy Weapon Forge
The last two came with the April 2026 update. Plasma weapons, the Rocket Launcher and the Turbo Molotov arrived in the same patch.
Storage keeps what you bring home. The June 2026 update added a Merge All function to containers.
Raiding mechanics: attacking and defending player bases
Raiding mechanics on mobile survival games come in two common forms. AI enemies attack your walls, or other players break into your base. Last Day on Earth: Survival shows a risk of the first form. Some of its App Store reviewers feel building is optional because zombie raids never reach their storage chests.
In Tomorrow, the risk you plan around sits on the maps. That's where you can lose loot:
- A death stash marked with a skull keeps 20% of the loot from a run when you die.
- The June 2026 update fixed stashes that fell under the ground or ended up out of reach.
- PvP is open on the maps. Since June 2026 the death stash keeps its loot after a PvP kill too.
- Your PvP kills are counted on your profile.
In Tomorrow, the risk you plan around sits on the maps.
One base rule changed in June 2026: inactive players get respawn protection at their base.
Tomorrow's defended places are ones you attack. The Old Mansion on the Infested Farm is guarded by the Redneck. Its door opens only after he dies. Skull Crusher camps hold four to seven fighters plus one with extra health.
Solo bases vs team compounds
Shared and solo bases both show up in the genre. LifeAfter, a survival game from NetEase, combines them: each player builds a manor and can also join a camp with other players.
Tomorrow's teamwork happens on the maps. Rooms are Solo, Duo or Trio. Since June 2026 you can set a team to Invite Only or Open and send invites straight from the minimap.
Clans are the long-term group. A clan's ranking comes from the Survival Rank of its top 50 members, weighted toward the strongest:
| Members by Survival Rank | Weight in the clan score |
|---|---|
| Places 1 to 10 | half of their Survival Rank |
| Places 11 to 20 | a fifth |
| Places 21 to 50 | a tenth |
Your base feeds that number through your personal rank. Stations differ a lot in what they're worth. A finished Energy Weapon Forge adds 300,000 Survival Rank. The Pyrotechnics Station adds 2,000.
Survival Rank only goes up, to a ceiling of 9,999,999. Its divisions run from Bronze I at 200 points through Silver and Gold up to Diamond III at 6,000,000.
Base building in Tomorrow: a practical walkthrough
Base building in Tomorrow follows the materials the maps hand out. One possible order:
First days
Start with the lower structure tiers and your first stations. Wood and stone come from your hatchet and pickaxe, your first gathering tools.
Mid game
For ore, Quarry has iron, lead and sulfur nodes. Infested Farm adds copper, iron and sulfur.
Two stations are worth planning for. The Armor Factory leads to reinforced junk armor past level 30, with 1410 conventional defense against 510 for plain junk armor. The knitting table got cheaper in April 2026, when its wrench cost dropped from 20 to 10.
Tip
Solace Springs and Construction Site were changed in April 2026 to drop more wrenches. Farm them before you work on the knitting table.
Later stations
The Energy Weapon Forge and the Pyrotechnics Station are the newest workshops, added in April 2026 together with Plasma Cells, Plasma Cores and Igniters. Plated metal, the newest structure tier, is the other upgrade to work toward.
Comfort
Decorations work on your character. Each one adds Comfort Points. Comfort slows hunger and thirst while slowly restoring health.
Comfort follows a formula with diminishing returns, so each extra point does a little less than the one before. The Blueprint update in October 2025 added the Skull Totem and the Throne to the decorations you can place.
